Sacramento Eye Consultants
For this month’s client spotlight, we’d like to introduce you to Sacramento Eye Consultants (SEC). This practice does a lot to give back, including medical missions to provide essential eye care in third world countries.
Dr. Sierra takes regular trips back to Honduras, her native country, to provide eye care to people in need. Honduras does not have a cornea bank and Dr. Sierra has done a lot of coordination with the Alabama Eye Bank and Sierra Eye and Tissue Services to obtain cornea tissue donations from the U.S. to take to Honduras. Thanks to her hard work, hundreds of Hondurans have had sight returned to them.
Dr. Sierra also worked with SEE International and Mercy General Hospital to bring necessary tools and supplies with her to teach a new modern cataract surgery to students in the Ophthalmology Training Program in Honduras.
Both Dr. Brubaker and Dr. Lewis have served on several medical missions, including missions in Central America, Haiti, and Africa, bringing new treatment options for glaucoma to patients that otherwise would not have been able to afford them. These missions have given sight back to many people who would have otherwise gone without.
Dr. Lewis and Dr. Sierra have also worked with Doctors without Borders providing medical care around the globe.
The physicians at Sacramento Eye Consultants believe that no one should be denied the ability to see because of the inability to pay. They work closely with the SPIRIT program, a physician volunteer program, that provides free consultations and surgeries to uninsured patients. Capitol City Surgery Center, founded by the physicians at SEC, is the top SPIRIT provider in the Sutter network. Dr. Sierra and Dr. Lee also work with various programs to provide free collagen cross-linking procedures to patients who are either uninsured or the procedure is not covered by insurance.
In addition, SEC employees enjoy giving back to their local community in and around Sacramento, California. They do annual collections and donations to local food banks and social service organizations, such as Salvation Army, Loaves and Fishes, and Acts of Mercy’s Operation Backpack.

Expanded Services at PMRG
As most of you receiving this newsletter know, in December of 2019, our founding partner, Ron Rosenberg, took a well-deserved retirement.With him went a certain intangible element – the consulting background that Ron had was deep and storied.He brought certain value-added insight to PMRG steeped in his long history working with practices.While Donna and I have learned much of what he added to the mix at PMRG, our duties as CEO and VP of Operations made taking over what he provided a bit of stretch for us.We’ve also felt that there was an additional level of services we could provide that would fit perfectly with our core competence of billing for ophthalmology practices.We’ve just not had the bandwidth to take on much on beyond what we’ve already been doing.
Well, as fate would have it, just as we were closing the door on 2020, we received an inquiry from a woman looking to see if there may be a fit for her at PMRG.Her resume indicated over 20 years of experience managing practices and revenue cycle management, with deep experience in ophthalmology and retina.In addition, she has both her CPC (certified professional coder) and CPMS (certified professional medical auditor) certifications.
After discussing with Donna and Paula, we decided to get on the phone with her to further explore.The three of us left the call very excited and clear this could be her new home!Our sense is that she could pick up the sort of consulting work Ron had done previously and could add much more to our offering.We are currently working through with her how best to deploy her vast skills and talents in ways that can best serve you, our clients, and expand what we’re able to provide.

Meet the Staff: Lisa Spizzirri
Lisa started with PMRG in early 2006 as a teenager. Her first job was working as an assistant to PMRG’s very first employee – she worked through denials and filed appeals for Sue. Her education in the intricacies of medical billing had started! Since then, she spent time as a receptionist as PMRG grew handling patient questions. Soon after that, she began working her own accounts, became certified in ophthalmology billing through the AAOE, and grew into a senior biller. Lisa has worked on a number of practice accounts, and what she loves most is solving the different problems she encounters. What she most appreciates about working at PMRG is the family feeling she gets – and, the endless support she gets from Donna and Curt.
When not working she enjoys shopping, working out at the gym, home decorating and spending time with her two girls – Ameila 15 and Kennadi 9.
We’re grateful Lisa is making PMRG her home away from home!
